DeKalb Medical Center
Revenue Cycle Department, Contracting and Process Improvement
The Revenue Cycle Department manages the strategic issues of revenue management for the DeKalb Regional Healthcare System. This includes negotiating payer (insurance companies) contracts and monitoring their performance. The complexities of healthcare payment processes are unimaginable to most and healthcare organizations continually strive to streamline the billing and payment process, reduce overhead, and increase opportunities to better serve patients.
DeKalb Medical Center has involved the Health Systems Institute (HSI) in supporting various special projects for several years. Currently, new challenges are being faced in providing "transparency" to the public relating to expected pricing of the most common care episodes. To aid in this effort, HSI students have developed systems to project pricing for prospective patients who request information prior to their service at the Medical Center.
