Bio
Ashlea Bennett is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. She is pursuing a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a focus in Logistics. Her future research interests include applying systems engineering techniques to tackle healthcare system design and long-term strategic initiatives, and applying logistics techniques to improve the efficiency and utilization of current health care systems and care delivery settings.
Her current research activity focuses on developing solution methods for a set of previously unstudied logistics problems encountered in the home health industry. She attempts to improve home health nurse utilization by developing automated solution methods for home health nurse routing and scheduling problems, which are complicated dynamic and stochastic variants of periodic routing problems.
As part of HSI in 2008, Ashlea will launch a research project that will partner with local hospitals and a large non-profit home care organization. She will study how to reduce the length of stay for hospital patients who are discharged to home care, and how to design and implement a seamless care transition model for those patients.
