Bio
Former HSI Graduate Research Assistant W. Brad Jones recently accepted an appointment as an Oak Ridge Institutes for Science and Education (ORISE) Research Participant assigned to a project in the National Center for Public Health Informatics (NCPHI) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In this role, Brad will aid NCPHI in facilitating the development of new methodologies and promising practices at the intersection of public health informatics and community health assessment. Specifically, he will be integrally involved in projects and initiatives at CDC that promote understandings of how the practice of community health assessment might evolve as the field of public health informatics continues to mature.
Brad successfully completed his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) with a concentration in Human Integrated Systems and a minor in Public Policy in June 2009. His dissertation is entitled "Exploring a Combined Quantitative and Qualitative Research Approach in Developing a Culturally Competent Dietary Behavior Assessment Instrument", in which he discusses the utility of synthesizing selected quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches when conducting dietary behavior assessments in culturally-diverse communities. He began his appointment at CDC as an ORISE Fellow in July 2009.
