The average time a person waits in a waiting room before being seen by a nurse or a physician has been known to be very high in some Emergency Rooms. While a patient waits in the waiting room, he/she experiences boredom and stress which can precipitate relapse or complications in people already ill. It also adds to an unpleasant experience in the waiting room because of which the quality and levels of patient satisfaction fall.
To improve the patient experience in the waiting room use of the "Personal Waiting Room Assistant" has been proposed. This hand held assistant improves communication between the hospital staff, provides information, keeps track of the patients' vital signs and provides positive distraction.
