Posted: April 17, 2008

Brad Jones, a Ph.D. student with the Health Systems Institute, has been selected to receive the third annual FACES Postdoctoral Fellowship. This grant is awarded to promising scientists to assist in the early stages of postdoctoral training and is for a one year term. It can be used to purchase research equipment, for travel, and other research and career development expenses. The funds will be made available to Mr. Jones once he accepts a postdoctoral position in an engineering or science related field at a U.S. college or university.

ABOUT FACES
Facilitating Academic Careers in Engineering and Science (FACES) is a National Science Foundation-sponsored effort between Georgia Tech, Morehouse, Emory University and Spelman. Its aim is to increase the number of African-Americans attaining doctorates in engineering and science. The ultimate goal of the FACES program is to alter the "face" of the engineering and science professoriate, such that it includes a greater number of African-Americans. An essential part of realizing these goals is to motivate African-Americans to enter graduate school. The academic year undergraduate research program is the component of FACES that addresses this need.
